Celebrating 14 Years of Focus BC

This month, we celebrated 14 years of Focus BC.

We marked the occasion the way we enjoy most: together at the office, sharing cake, opening champagne, catching up between meetings, and listening to a speech that reminded us how much has happened since the early days of the company.

Behind every product release, customer project, and milestone over the last 14 years, there has been a huge amount of work, collaboration, and commitment from many different people. Celebrating this anniversary gave us the opportunity to pause for a moment and reflect on the journey we have built together.

There were stories about the company’s first projects, partnerships that helped shape our growth, and memories from different stages of Focus BC’s evolution. It was also a reminder that while technology and products continue to evolve, people have always been at the center of everything we do.

Celebrating Together as a Team

Throughout the day, the office became a mix of celebration, conversations, photos, and shared memories.

Like most weeks at Focus BC, the office was full of energy, conversations, and people moving between different projects. But this time, the focus was simply on celebrating the people and moments that helped shape the company over the years.

Photos, Challenges and Team Moments

Of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without a bit of fun and chaos. We started by asking everyone to bring or find a photo from when they were around 14 years old. Before long, the office walls and tables were filled with childhood photos, old hairstyles, school pictures, and memories from completely different phases of life.

The activity quickly turned into a “guess who” challenge, with teammates trying to match each teenage photo to the colleague they now work with every day. It was a simple activity, but one that reflected the type of culture we try to build at Focus BC: collaborative, human, and connected beyond day-to-day project work.

Team Challenges and New Merch

Later in the day, we moved on to a series of small team challenges. Names were drawn randomly and each person received different tasks to complete individually or together with another teammate.

Some of the challenges included:

• Having lunch with someone from a different department

• Posting on LinkedIn about something learned at Focus BC

• Scheduling a coffee with someone they had not spoken to recently

• Sharing a useful tool, shortcut, template, or productivity tip with the team

We also used the occasion to share the latest Focus BC merchandise, including new hoodies and t-shirts that quickly started appearing around the office.

It may seem like a small detail, but moments like these help reinforce the sense of shared identity and belonging within the team.

Closing the Day Together

To finish the celebration, the team headed to Jardim da Luz, a restaurant near the office, for a relaxed team lunch filled with good food and even better conversations.

After 14 years, what continues to matter most is the group of people behind Focus BC and the culture we continue building together every day.
