Focus BC joins the IoT Challenge to support IoT innovation with regional impact

Focus BC joins the IoT Challenge as a technology partner, supporting university students as they develop practical IoT ideas with real impact in their regions.

Technology plays an increasingly important role in the way territories respond to regional challenges. From resource management and mobility to sustainability, health, education, and civil protection, there are many areas where data, sensors, and connected systems can contribute to efficient solutions that are closer to people’s real day-to-day needs.

What is the IoT Challenge?

The IoT Challenge is a friendly competition created to challenge university students to develop innovative ideas focused on the Internet of Things that demonstrate the potential to impact their region.

Under the motto “Impacta a tua Região”, this challenge invites participants to take a closer look at the territory around them, identify concrete problems, and explore how technology can help.

The idea is simple: apply technical knowledge, creativity, and regional awareness to projects with practical applications.

Organized by Kyndryl, in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, the Municipality of Portalegre, and Focus BC, the IoT Challenge brings together students, companies, educational institutions, and local entities around a common goal: to develop technological solutions that can respond to real community needs.

Focus BC as a technology partner

We are proud to be part of this initiative as a technology partner. Our work has long been connected to real-time data, location intelligence, and solutions that help all kinds of organizations and institutions make better decisions on the ground. That is why this challenge is so closely aligned with the way we believe technology should be applied: as a practical tool to improve territories, services, and communities.

Beyond being a simple competition between students, this initiative can help create a collaborative ecosystem where knowledge, practice, market experience, and young talent come together. It is an opportunity for students to explore entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation while working on ideas that can support the development of their own region.

For us, it is a privilege to partner with an initiative that brings different perspectives together and gives young talent the space to work on technology with a clear connection to real needs.

What comes next

This competition will culminate in a final in-person event at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre campus, where the best projects will be presented and awarded.

We are looking forward to the next stages of the IoT Challenge and to seeing how participants transform their ideas into practical solutions.
