As Co-founder and Managing Partner of Focus BC, he leads Technology & Product, covering product strategy, technology direction, customer and market alignment, partnerships and the evolution of the company’s software products.
His main product focus is Virtual Venue, supporting sports organisations, organising committees and venue teams in the planning and operation of major sporting events. He also contributes to the evolution of City as a Platform, Focus BC’s platform for municipalities and public organisations.
Current focus
Sandro's current work is centred on how technology can help operational teams work from shared information throughout the event lifecycle.
This includes venue planning, operational readiness, temporary infrastructure, site visits, reporting, cross-functional collaboration and the use of spatial and operational data to support coordination and decision-making.
His work with Virtual Venue is focused on transforming fragmented plans, workflows and operational information into shared digital environments that can be reused across venues, competitions and events.
Background
Sandro has a background in Geographic Engineering and geospatial technology.
He began his professional career in research at the University of Coimbra, working in Astronomy and Astrophysics and developing scientific software, including EfeCalc for the calculation of astronomical ephemerides.
He later held technical, R&D and leadership roles at Esri Portugal, before co-founding Focus BC in 2012.
His earlier work also includes engineering monitoring, urban resilience and digital platforms for cities and public organisations. This multidisciplinary background continues to influence the way he approaches product development and operational technology today.
